State Bank & Trust Co.
About SBT

    History

State Bank & Trust Co. opened for business on February 27, 1939 in the former First National Bank building. Its founders were John R. Hattery, Edgar Fawcett, and Edgar's son, Harold, who retired from the bank in 1991 after 52 years of service. Branch offices were opened in McCallsburg in 1940 and Colo in 1943. In 1962 the bank constructed a new facility across the street at its present location in Nevada. In 1983, the bank became partners with Ames National Corporation, an association of five central Iowa banks operating in seven communities primarily in Story and Marshall Counties. State Bank & Trust Co. continues to have an independent Board of Directors and autonomous policy and decision making authority while allowing employees and customers the benefits of the affiliation.

State Bank & Trust Co. has experienced steady deposit growth since its inception. Our consistency and strong community involvement has allowed us to form a solid foundation. Good decisions and successful risk management has allowed the bank to be among the healthiest in Iowa. We continue to invest in the future of eastern Story County. Our more than two-dozen employees take pride in their level of service, knowing that they do "make a difference".
